AGROVOC published as Linked Open Data

 In September 2011 our  team published the multilingual Agricultural Concept Scheme AGROVOC in the Linked Open Data Cloud.  This was the fruit of a year long restructuing of the traditional thesaurus into a concept based scheme that represents knowledge in the area of agriculture and related areas. Within very few weeks  1000 s of out and inlinks from other vocabularies were produced to link to AGROVOC.

Expert consultation in Beijing on Building the CIARD Framework for Data and Information Sharing

 From June 20-23. I participated in the international Expert Consultation on   Building the CIARD framework for Data and Information Sharing"  (https://www.ciard.net/news/highlights-expert-consultation-beijing-building-ciard-framework-data-and-information-sharing)

This conference was a major step forward to outline a framework for better information sharing in agricultural research for innovation

 

ICUDL 2009, Pittsburgh

From November 6-8 I participated in the 5th International Conference on Universal Digital Library. (Pittsburgh, USA ICUDL -

ICUDL is a worldwide initiative with strong operations in China and India to digitize library content and to make it online available.

Meeting with MIMOS management and MIMOS semantic Web Group

Wednesday, 28. I am meeting Mimos Management at their Headquarter in the Kuala Lumpur Science Park. <a class="zem_slink" href="https://www.mimos.my" title="MIMOS" rel="homepage">MIMOS</a> is an incredible place, great personalities from top management to the researchers, I met researchers not only from <a class="zem_slink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia" title="Malaysia" rel="wikipedia">Malaysia</a>, but also from Germany (partnership with DFKI) and Iran. I was told that years ago, MIMOS was changed dramatically to get rid of hierarchies and red tape.

Johannes Keizer engaged as visiting Professor at the Chinese Academy of Science

I got today my letter of engagement for two years as visting professor at the Institute of Intelligent Machines of the Chinese Academy of Science (IIM, CAS). Professor Rujing Wang, Deputy Director of the Institute is very keen to intensify the contacts with our team at FAO in Rome.
