Session on openArchive and openAccess publishing

I participated this morning in the IAALD meeting, especially in the session on openAccess publishing, highlights:
- the main presenter, Lesly Chan from Toronto is a vary good resource for knowledge on open access. In his presentation (we have to get this presentation, should be easy in searching for his name in Google) he showed that Brazil is in the 4th place of openAccess publishing in the world (after US, UK and Germany) this is product of government policy. The number of openArchives is growing exponentially since 2000. he made an interesting remark about the OAI MHP and the use of simple Dublin Core for exchange: This is a first baby step in making open Archives visible and interoperable.
- A very important resource to work on openArchives in East Africa is Daisy Ouya. She is a science writer with Cimmyt and has conducted a study on open Access in Africa.
- CTA is funding projects regarding scientific publishing in Africa
- Access to fulltext: problem that often in legacy data the link to the full text is missing. Consideration: Document Locator in WebAgris 2.0??
- I promoted eLis (shouldn't be our articles overthere...?)
- We need to set up our own mailing list for openAccess issues in Africa. I collected some emails and Irene should set up the mailing list
