I have been twice for dinner at Neugruen's. November 2009 and August 2010, In both opportunities I was happy about the 60 Euros spent for eating and drinking. They also decreased prices from 2009 to 2010. In 2009 the set menu was 44 Euro, in 2010 it decreased to 39 Euro without influence on quality and quantity. On August 14 Cecilia and I shared both menus.
With aperitivo and a bottle wine the bill was 120 Euro.
For me highlights of this menu have been "Rote Beete Salat und Johannisbeeren" (a wonderful combination), the "Kohlrabi" (just cooked at the point!). I liked the Petersilien-Kartoffelpueree. I myself often combine potatoe mash with aromatic herbs.
The 3 types of fish (mueritzwildbarsch, Saibling and Loup de Mer) were all wonderful fresh and correctly prepared.
My only problem is with the winelist: we ordered a "Spaetburgunder" for the price of 34 Euros from a producer in the German Palatinato Region. It was a young wine from 2008. Directly after opening the bottle it had a strong acidity which nearly tasted sparkling. That killed the wonderful aroma of the wine, which I enjoyed only with the last glasses after 2 hours. Well for 35 Euros.... In a winery today you can buy decent wines for 7 Euros and good ones for 10 euros, which should result in Restaurant prices from 15 to 20. Euros. Some of these bottles should be in the menu also.
