Carots and Leek

That sounds banal, but it is not if... If you get very young leek. Saturday my veggie-monger at Piazza Vittorio had this fabulous leek, only twice as thick as spring onions and with an incredible fragrance. Also the carots were tasty and not as the many pinky water concentrates you get often.

A nearly perfect Fisch"Curry"

You cannot do this often. You need some friend, who comes back from the tropics and brings you a fresh coconut. Cheers to Modesta, our Phillipine cleaning lady, who brought a fresh coconut from her own tree at home.
OK, I called it Curry, but there is not an ounce of Curry Pulver in it, instead:
- a good amount of ginger
- not too much garlic
- a bunch of spring onions
- a tomatoe
- some thai chilli
- fresh coriander
if you are adventurous enough also capers and peppers (not too much, but so it gets really fusion)

Vin d'Alsace

Are Economics science?

Hey, Economics Geniuses! What Happened? - BusinessWeek
magazine cover
The business week articles treats how the world economists failed to predict the finance crisis of the last year.  One of the reader commented: " so what? economics is not science, but philosophy and you cannot get any relevant guidance out of that".
This is widespread opinion,  linguistically well expressed in English, where "science" is only applied for physics, chemistry, biology and the likes, whereas all the other stuff is labeled as "humanities".

Zander

Startseite

I have been to the Zander first time in February 2007 and had kept it in my memory as an expensive but worthwhile place.  I came back in November 2008 with a party of 6 ( the same party that had dinner the night before in ; Sol y Sombra for a mere 110 €.) This time I wante to show my friends from Boston that there is also "fine dining".

Is this culturally relevant?

Following an article in the "Spiegel"  59% of all Spanish people believe in God in a traditional sense, 18% are not believers at all, whereas 74% of all Italians do believe in God in a tradional sense, whereas only 6 % are  not believers.  The numbers come from a survey conducted by the EC, 4 years ago.

What I liked: Barack Obama, in his inauguration speech mentioned non believers on the same level as Christians, Muslims, Jews and others.

Volksluxus ("luxury for the people")

This was a marvellous spring day! So I used the sunset hours for a walk through my neigbourhood "SO36". SO36 is the name of one of the most famous clubs in the area, but it is also used to indicate this part of Kreuzberg. Well, I crossed the border several times, the border between "Mitte" und "Kreuzberg", the border between what was until 20 years ago Berlin? Wild West and the eastern part behind the wall.

Time for Science to Reclaim Its Progressive Roots

Jonathan Moreno and Rick Weiss have published a collection of essays from "science progress" that will be published soon (https://www.scienceprogress.org/2009/03/science-next-excerpt/)

I would like to cite some of the most significant  passages from the introduction:

"One of the things we love about science is that it is nothing if not argumentative. Both as a way of thinking and as a wellspring of novel ideas and products, science is a tumultuous truth-seeking process and even further, we contend, a revolutionary force for human liberation.
